I Am Second- Jim Munroe

"I had to die in order for a chance to live."

 Jim entered college with a skepticism about life.  The idea of God seemed “silly”.  He poured his life into a successful career in magic where a lot of his skepticism was confirmed. There really are “trap doors” and “smoke and mirrors.”  But despite doubts, radical things were happening in Jim’s life to turn his world upside down.  And then, just when he thought he had it all figured out: Leukemia.  When faced with the choices of how to proceed, Jim knew his best chance of living was to allow himself to die first.  Chemotherapy to destroy blood cells. New blood to replace his own.  Yet how could he allow himself to endure the agony?  And why was this happening?[1]

I Am Second- Christian Hosoi

I'm currently doing this devotional book called "Live Second: 365 Ways to Make Jesus First." Its by the awesome Christian organization known as I Am Second, and each week, the book features a different I am Second video--via barcode--to start off that week. I've featured I am Second videos on here before, and they're both extremely inspiring and encouraging. I love them because they remind me that our God is still at work in this world today, just as active as He was in Bible times. I think a lot of you guys need to know that; so I'm going to start sharing these videos again: hopefully at least one a week. We shall see how this works out. xP

Anyway, here's this week's video: Christian Hosoi and why he's Second.

How hard do you have to fall and hit rock bottom before you make the decision to stop doing whatever it is that is satisfying you on the outside, but killing you on the inside? Christian Hosoi, an All-American professional skateboarder, lived by the creed, “Skate and Destroy.” While he found his calling in skating at an early age, he also found himself in the midst of destruction. “I was trying to destroy myself because I was searching for love in money, fame and girls. None of it satisfied me.”
Hosoi had fame. He had money. He had it all but it was all taken. It took him losing it all to realize that freedom was not in material possessions. It had nothing to do with the cares of this world. He realized who and where freedom really was: in Christ.[1]

A New Beginning

This is the second post I wrote for my friend +Matthew Clayton and his blog series, The Christmas Series. God bless you guys and happy 2013!

2012 is officially over. Another year has come and gone with a new one taking its place. This New Year is a new beginning, a new era—just as our lives with Christ should be. This post will be shorter than the others, simply because the passage below has so much to say. But remember that you are new, just as this coming year is new.

Newness is not a feeling. Just because we don’t feel new doesn’t mean that we aren’t. We are new because of what Christ did. He brought us back from deadness, and breathed His life right into us. We are now dead to sin and alive in Christ. All those who truly put their faith in Jesus are brand new: new creations in Christ. Remember this as you read Ephesians 2:1-10 and head into the New Year; we are all new. Only for us, our newness will never fade.

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." –Ephesians 2:1-10
